Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is based on the journal's template and is in Microsoft Word or RTF format
  • The manuscript is original and unpublished. The total similarity rate with other publications does not exceed 20%, excluding references, direct quotations, and minor overlaps. All submissions will be checked using the institutional Turnitin software or an equivalent tool. Plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, and improper use of sources will not be tolerated.
  • The text complies with the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which can be found in the journal's "Submissions" section.
  • The length of the paper, including the abstract and references, does not exceed 7,000 words.
  • The text adheres to the journal’s formatting guidelines (fonts, font size, margins, line spacing, etc.), and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed in the appropriate locations within the text, rather than at the end.
  • Whenever possible, DOI or URL links are provided for the references.
  • The article may have up to 4 authors.
  • The OJS platform now includes the identification of ALL authors: full name, institutional affiliation, email address, and a brief biography (maximum 100 words).
  • If an author has previously published in the journal, at least one year must have elapsed since the date of their most recent publication before they may submit a new article.
  • An author may not submit two articles to the journal for review at the same time.

Author Guidelines

When submitting your article, please note the following guidelines:

  • The submission consists of two documents that must be uploaded directly to the University of Nariño’s Institutional Journal System on the OJS platform:
    • 1° A file containing the original article in accordance with the journal’s editorial policy (without any reference to the authors to ensure double-blind peer review). Use the appropriate template based on the type of article you are submitting.
  • The “letter of assignment of rights and commitments” must be signed by all authors and uploaded to the Institutional Journal System. In this letter, the authors state that the article is unpublished, has not been submitted to another journal or publisher, agree to possible changes to the text, and assign the rights for the publication and dissemination of the work in the journal for scientific and cultural purposes, on a non-profit basis. The form can be downloaded at this link.

It is important to note that, should the article not be approved for publication, the letter of assignment of rights and commitments becomes void; therefore, authors are free to submit their proposal to another outlet, if they deem it appropriate.

Additionally, two requirements must be met:

  • Authors must have a standardized signature registered at https://www.iralis.org/registre-su-iralis. This ensures the correct attribution of their work, enhances their academic visibility, and facilitates their identification in databases and publications. It also prevents confusion with other researchers with similar names and strengthens their professional reputation by consolidating their scientific output under a single identity.
  • It is recommended to include the ORCID identifier, which can be obtained at: https://orcid.org/register. This service provides authors with a unique digital identity that ensures the correct attribution of their work, avoiding confusion with namesakes; it facilitates publication management, integration with academic databases, and access to calls for submissions; furthermore, it improves the visibility, credibility, and tracking of the impact of their scientific output.
