Information For Authors

The RHEC aims to publish original articles and disseminate research findings and intellectual output in the fields of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Educational Sciences, spanning different historical periods and produced by researchers and the academic community at both national and international levels.

Due to its connection with the doctoral program, this publication serves as a platform for disseminating high-quality academic studies on topics related to education: educational philosophy and policy, educational sciences, pedagogy, didactics, curriculum, university history, teaching methods, schools of thought and trends, key figures and individuals involved in educational processes, everyday life, new information and communication technologies, and more.

Target audience: This journal is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students, historians, administrators, professors, researchers, and the academic community, thus providing a space for academic and scientific reflection in the areas of Humanities, Social Sciences, Educational Sciences, and the History of Education. The RHEC publishes original and unpublished articles resulting from research in any field of education, which are distributed in the articles section. It also publishes reviews to disseminate academic and intellectual output with a panoramic and critical perspective.
Articles linked to research processes, accepted for review by the Editorial Committee and evaluation by two external reviewers, must primarily fall into the category of Research Article: scientific, reflective, or review.

Article Classification:

a. Scientific Research Article. The document must present, in a detailed, clear, and truthful manner, the original results of completed research projects. Structure: introduction, methodology, problem statement, results, conclusions, and bibliographic references.

b. Reflection Article. The document must present research results from the author's analytical, interpretive, or critical perspective on a specific topic, using original sources. It is characterized by analysis, discussion of ideas, and the author's argumentation. Structure: introduction, methodology, problem statement, development, conclusions, and bibliographic references.

c. Review Article. This document is the result of research that analyzes, systematizes, and integrates the results of published or unpublished research in order to report on research advances and trends or suggest future work. It must be characterized by a careful and comprehensive literature review of at least 52 bibliographic references. Structure: Introduction, statement of the topic, literature review, trends in the field of knowledge, conclusions, and bibliographic references.

d. Book review: Description or summary of a book published in the last year, providing an overview and critical perspective.

Guidelines for Submitting Manuscripts

Submissions must be made through the Open Journal System (OJS). To do so, authors must register and submit their manuscript via: Envíos 
When submitting the submission, the author must attach the Formato de solicitud de publicación duly supplemented with all the information.

Articles
1. Articles must be original and unpublished. They must be submitted in Microsoft Word format as follows: letter size, single-spaced, Times New Roman font, size 12, with 3 cm top margins and 2.5 cm left and right margins.

2. The article length should be between 30,000 and 50,000 characters, including the title, abstract, figures, tables, and bibliography. Only italics should be used to highlight words or text; bold and underline are not acceptable.

3. Indicate the name(s) of the author(s): this should be placed immediately after the title. If there are multiple authors, the name of the corresponding person should be indicated in a footnote. The following information about the author(s) must be included in the footnote: most recent academic degree, affiliated institution(s), research group, email address, and ORCID ID.
4. The article must contain: title, abstract, keywords, introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions, and references (when required).

5. The title: should refer to aspects of the article's content and have a maximum length of 15 words, without abbreviations or formulas.

6. Abstract: must clearly state: hypothesis, objective, methodology or characterization of the type of work performed, results or ideas addressed, and conclusions. It should be between 150 and 250 words and be available in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

7. Keywords: 3 to 5 keywords that define the main ideas of the article. These should be selected from the descriptors in the humanities and social sciences according to the UNESCO Thesauri and must be presented in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.

8. Introduction: This section should include the methodology used in the research.

9. Footnotes should be in the same font, size 10.

10. Tables, graphs, and photographs should be presented in a clear and understandable manner. Illustration titles should be clear and precise, and the source should be cited, even if it is your own work. Photographs should include the source and date. These files should be submitted in JPG format and at high resolution. They should be attached as a separate file in JPEG format. In the article, they should appear in the exact location where they will appear in the published article.

11. Conclusions: These should summarize the contributions to knowledge, emphasizing the relevance, significance, and impact of the research findings on the academic and scientific community. 12. References: The bibliography cited in the text should be listed at the end of the article. It should be presented in alphabetical order. When there are bibliographic references by the same author from different years, they should be presented in chronological order, starting with the most recent publication. When the book is by the same author and from the same year, they should be identified with a) and b).

13. If the article includes primary sources (archival sources, newspapers, etc.), these should be listed before the bibliographic references.

14. If the article is based on a conference paper and the paper was NOT PUBLISHED, this should be indicated in a footnote.

Book Reviews
Book reviews must be for texts published within the last year and should be between 4,000 and 5,000 characters long, including the title. A picture of the book cover must be included.

The Journal Historia de la Educación Colombiana uses the citation style of the “Chicago Manual of Style (18th edition).” It distinguishes between Footnotes, Bibliography, and Abbreviated Notes (bibliographic and documentary references).
