Jorge Buendía Narváez and his pedagogical contribution

Abstract

This study begins with a brief description of the educational context in Colombia in the period between 1900 and 1934; then a brief sketch of Jorge Buendía Narváez, highlights his biography and achievements, such as his primary school in La Cruz, his homeland studies; his secondary studies in the Normal School for Men in Pasto between 1912 and 1916, the institution that granted him the diploma of Master of High School in the year 1916; his studies in the pedagogical Institute and the University of Chile, which granted him the title of State Professor of Biological and Chemical Sciences in 1923; his experience as a teacher in different educational institutions in Santiago, Chile and the Gimnasio Moderno de Bogotá; his experience as Director of the Normal School for Men in Pasto between 1924 and 1930, and as Director of Public Instruction of Nariño between 1930 and 1934, when he had the opportunity to put into practice knowledge and educational and pedagogical experiences.

Finally, the main contributions made by the distinguished Nariño pedagogue as Director of the Normal School of Pasto between 1923 and 1930 and as Director of the Secretary of Public Instruction of Nariño in the period 1930-1934 are highlighted, among which stand out: theoretical and practical agriculture, craftwork, teaching pedagogy, and the plan of studies in the period 1924-1932 and his achievements as head of the Directorate of Public Instruction in Nariño between 1930 and 1934.
