Abstract

This essay begins and ends referring to the conception of university by Jacques Derrida to establish the problem of the Colombian university in terms of the philosophy of education. The objective is to consider how the policies of self-evaluation and accreditation as processes of self-reflection and communication should contribute to the strengthening of the quality of education, keeping in mind that nowadays we cannot think of democratic development and progress of a nation without a qualified university. Thus, the principles and policies of the Colombian National Council of Accreditation, CAN (Spanish abbreviation) are examined from a philosophical perspective rather that from a procedural one, to reflect on communicative, dialogic and discursive terms on the tasks of the university in a globalized world, tasks which can be summarized as that of citizen competences which should lead universities to educate students to be able to  shape the nation democratically.
