Education and culture in Pasto in the period of the Liberal Republic 1930-1946

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show the changes that took place in the field of education and culture in the city of Pasto as narrated in print media, which contributed to the formation of an imaginary representation of society during the time of the establishment of the Liberal Republic. The article examines numerous writings and newspaper articles on the theme of the new cultural configuration that drove liberalism between the years 1930 to 1946. This text also looks at the southern part of Colombia from a national perspective through the war with Peru. After the war, Colombia established programs that influenced the cultural profile on the region. Village Cultural Campaigns, regional libraries, the creation of the Great Western Teacher’s School, and regional book fairs are examples of institutions that were produced by Colombia’s influence.
