The brothers of the christian schools and the teaching of geography in Colombia during the first half of the 20th century
Keywords:
teaching of geography, religious congregation, Christian brothers of the schools of St. John Baptist de La SalleAbstract
The presence of the Congregation of the Hermanos de la Salle as an educational agency in Colombia can be dated from the end of the 19th century, and it is clear that during the first half of the 20th century its academic and teaching interests dealt with school subjects such as history, civics, literature, and also the fields of mathematical sciences and nature. Within what they called Patriotic Education, the teaching of geography played an important role next to the first two mentioned. Thus, in their eagerness to consolidate an adequate program and proposal, its tenets on an educational level are presented in this document in a general way.
