Amanda Labarca: pioneer of women’s education and women’s rights in Chile

Lauded by her own countrymen as one of the most talented women Chile has produced, the article presents a summary of the life and work of Amanda Labarca (1886-1975), notable pioneer in the fight for education and rights of indigenous populations and women of Chile. After some brief biographical data on her origins and education, the article analyzes her main attributes and contributions particular to early 20 the century Chilean views of education. The article concludes that, despite the laps of years, the clear principles of this notable teacher are as much in force nowadays in Chile, as well as Latin America, as they were at the time of their gestation.
