Colombian education in the second half of the 19th century

Abstract

In the second middle of the XIX century education in Colombia presents two tendencies: the Radical tendency between the 1863-1880 years and the regenerator one between the 1880-1900 years. The first one got strong the laic education under the principles of the positivist and utilitarist philosophy; increased the study of Natural Sciences, the pestalozzin educative phylosophy and the educative reform with the new teaching methods. Education in the years of regeneration gave a change towards the teocentric tradicional education with a great influence of catholic church and the transmission of the escolastic philosophy.

In the radicalism cycle change was searched "by the roots" from the traditional methods and Normal schools were comformed with the radical phylosophy. In the years of regeneration unity between the church and the State were searched, by which, education was confessional, with the guidance of the church in the teocentric educative phylosophy. Dámaso Zapata thoughts in the Radical period, and Monsignor Rafael María Carrasquilla in the regeneration, they are excelled in the present research; so, the disertations of naturalism in the education.
